methods & philosophy
I supplement repertoire with regular scales, exercises, and etudes. Technical structure unlocks musical freedom and tone. No musical intention is inaccessible to a student who practices slowly, with mindfulness and patience.
If you can hear it, you can play it…
Listening and mental practice unlock a sense of ease and flow.
Students will work through a number of repertoire and method books including (but not limited to):
Suzuki Method; Yost System; Sevcik; Schradeik; Wolfhart; Kreutzer; Hoffman Double Stops; Trott Melodious Double Stops; Carl Flesch Scale System; Bartok 44 Duos
Opportunities:
bi-annual student recitals— my studio’s donation-based recitals are a great opportunity for students to gain positive performance experience
quarterly play-ins—a collaborative playing experience for students studying Suzuki repertoire. A wonderful opportunity for students to play in a group, strengthen their repertoire and listening. these casual workshops help students to gain comfort and confidence on the stage, while being a great marker of personal progress.
Rates:
1 hour— $100
45 minutes— $75
30 minutes (recommended for beginners and students 8 and under)— $50
My rates are based off of what is typical of a teacher with my level of experience in the Bay Area and supportive of a livable wage. Accessibility to music education is a priority of mine, and sliding scale rates will be offered to students passionate about music who may lack resources.
